Home Improvement Remodeling
Why are You
Thinking About This?

Home improvement remodeling? When reviewing the instructions for starting your home remodeling plan, I told you that there were 2 different terms that we use interchangeably - home improvement and home remodeling. We define these terms like this: home improvement is what you want to do, home remodeling is doing it. And then, when you are comfortable with that definition, we throw in a variation. Don't worry, we have combined them to save time and space for more valuable information. So, let's get to it!

why oh why? Most important question of all: why are you thinking about doing this project yourself? Is it to save money, to save time, to save yourself from a "bad" contractor? Is it the thrill of a challenge, is it because you know how, are you a do it yourself kind of person? Make sure you are very clear on why you are going to do this project.

When you know why, move on to this next step. I have included some of the top reasons why people consider home improvement remodeling.

Repairs that Lead to Other Projects

Moving Boxes & Supplies It is the first freeze and you didn't know to disconnect your garden hose from the spigot. As the excess water in the line froze it expanded until it cracked the pipe. When this water thawed, it dripped right out of that crack. You didn't notice because you were out of town. When you returned, you had a lovely disaster in the finished room downstairs. This damaged drywall and flooring need to be replaced. Since you will be doing this anyway, wouldn't it be a great time to add a closet in that room? Or maybe that extra bathroom you have always wanted. If so, which improvement makes the most sense? For now, don't hold back, any idea is fair game.

Looking for a Quick Resale with Your Home Improvement Remodeling

When you bought your home you knew you would be selling within 3-5 years. You wanted this to be an investment. Your current kitchen had expired before you bought it. You think that this could be a problem for a quick resale. You have always thought that adding a deck on the back would make the property more attractive, thus quicker to sell. Brainstorm, look at this property with a critical eye, keep track of all of your ideas.

You Just Want it to Look and Feel Like You!

Several years ago, when you bought the house, you were thinking you would move in a few years. Those years have come and gone. The place looks the same - like you were going to move in a few years. Now, when you come home it would be so nice if it could just look and feel like you. What does that look and feel like? When you look around, what would you like to see? Now that you have lived here for awhile, how would you change things to fit your needs?

Dream Home Improvement Remodeling

dream home remodelingYou bought this charming little house knowing that you will live here until the end of your days. There are many things you want to do to turn it into your dream home. You know you have time to get started, but, you aren't sure how. The best place for you to start is by dreaming. What do your dreams look like?

Ok! Quick Review and Then Start Writing!

Review all of the reasons listed above. Chances are that your reasons are a combination of several of them. That is completely ok, now you know why you want to do this home improvement remodeling.

Now is the time to write down and keep track of all of your ideas. Don't analyze each one, just write them down. Developing your plan will be easier if your notes are kept together in one area. Because of this, we have assembled a Home Remodeling Plan Workbook which includes a place just for answering your "why".

Don't forget to include your family members in this brainstorming project. Have fun and we will see you at the next step, home remodeling ideas - needs, wants, wishes and why fors.
