In the pre-planning session, I explained that home improvement is what you want done and home remodeling is the process of doing it. Webster correct? Don't know, this is how I define it. I tell you this to explain the changes in terminology that you will see in this section. This is because we are going from thinking about your project to actually doing it. Before you can successfully cost remodeling, you have to define the look and feel. Great! Quite a few of you have wanted to do this from the get go. Let's do it! Simply follow the directions listed in home improvement how to to begin defining your look and feel.
From the rough field sketches that you just completed, we need to sit down at a desk and fine tune everything. This is where you will turn your sketches into a full blown building plan. This plan can be submitted to building departments if required, as well as to selected subcontractors for bidding/scheduling. These drawings will be your home remodeling guide. Notice the terminology change? That is because we have gone from just thinking about it to actually doing your home remodeling project! You know what you don't want, you know what you do want. You know its size, shape and dimension. You can easily visualize it now, because you can see it on paper, matter of fact, you have the drawing to take with you! So, let's go shopping! We need to know what products will go into your project before we can do the final cost remodeling calculations. Don't worry, if shopping is not your cup of tea, assign this task to a family member and you keep working on the drawings! Our shopping trip will identify the selections of permanent building items that wil go into your home remodel, like bath and kitchen fixtures and cabinetry, window and door selections and flooring types and styles. Equally important to your final look and feel will be how the actual walls themselves will be finished. Hop over to
