How Much
Will those Dreams Cost?

Cost Remodeling is the second big key to unlocking the mysteries of home remodeling. This key leads you to analyze and prepare for actual building. Many of you have already completed the steps outlined in the first key, the Home Remodeling Plan. I told you in this pre-planning session that this process will work for an individual task, a project or for the complete home master plan.

If you are just joining us, you might want to do a quick review through that section. If you are already in the middle of a project, stay here. If you have a specific building need, jump over to the How to Remodel Workshop. Click here for guaranteed personal loans.

In the pre-planning session, I explained that home improvement is what you want done and home remodeling is the process of doing it. Webster correct? Don't know, this is how I define it. I tell you this to explain the changes in terminology that you will see in this section. This is because we are going from thinking about your project to actually doing it.

Before you can successfully cost remodeling, you have to define the look and feel. Great! Quite a few of you have wanted to do this from the get go. Let's do it!

Simply follow the directions listed in home improvement how to to begin defining your look and feel.

From this list we can analyze what you don't want. Then we can see what you do want and begin building from there. Next step, let's see how what you do want will fit into the space you have in mind. Grab a tape measure and allow me to be your home improvement guide. Remember your first drawings? You know, the sketch on the back of a napkin at breakfast? Hey, we all do that! Now we need to get a little bit more accurate.

From the rough field sketches that you just completed, we need to sit down at a desk and fine tune everything. This is where you will turn your sketches into a full blown building plan. This plan can be submitted to building departments if required, as well as to selected subcontractors for bidding/scheduling. These drawings will be your home remodeling guide. Notice the terminology change? That is because we have gone from just thinking about it to actually doing your home remodeling project!

You know what you don't want, you know what you do want. You know its size, shape and dimension. You can easily visualize it now, because you can see it on paper, matter of fact, you have the drawing to take with you! So, let's go shopping! We need to know what products will go into your project before we can do the final cost remodeling calculations. Don't worry, if shopping is not your cup of tea, assign this task to a family member and you keep working on the drawings!

Our shopping trip will identify the selections of permanent building items that wil go into your home remodel, like bath and kitchen fixtures and cabinetry, window and door selections and flooring types and styles. Equally important to your final look and feel will be how the actual walls themselves will be finished. Hop over to home decorating ideas for help with selecting wall and color choices.

When you have selected the products that you want to put into your project, you can now start the number crunching. Whew! Thought you would never get to this part! Remember when I told you that there would be a time to get very precise with your numbers? Well, that time is now. Grab your calculators and come with me to cost home remodeling. Now, we find out how much those dreams really cost!

As we did in the pre-planning session, I have prepared a Cost Home Remodeling Workbook for you to keep track of all your cost remodeling notes.

Congratulations! You have the greatest of plans, you have drawings, you know every detail of what you want and its cost. It is now time to go to the How to Remodel Workshop. Ladies and Gentlemen, get out your hammers!
